Seattle Rugby Club Joins Up with SeaMar Health: A Match-Changer for Rugby Player Safety
At Seattle Rugby Club, we are always looking for ways to elevate the experience and well-being of our players, both on and off the field. That’s why we’re thrilled to work with SeaMar Medical Health Facility—a collaboration that will bring a new level of healthcare support to rugby players throughout the Pacific Northwest.
SRC has always prioritized player safety, and we currently have medical staff on the sidelines at all our matches. However, this opportunity with SeaMar Medical Health Facility introduces an exciting new layer of safety for our players. Recently, SRC board members had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Perez from SeaMar and toured their mobile health clinic, which will be on-site at some of our matches throughout the season.
While our existing medical staff provides critical care on the sidelines, the SeaMar mobile clinic adds an extra layer of accessibility, offering additional services like health screenings, emergency care, and educational resources for players and fans. With a mobile clinic at matches, players will have more immediate access to healthcare, ensuring that they are fully equipped to address injuries, provide ongoing health support, and give players peace of mind knowing that care is always nearby.
SeaMar's Mission: Providing Healthcare for All
At the heart of SeaMar’s work is their mission to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare to underserved communities. According to SeaMar's mission statement, they are dedicated to offering services that meet the needs of people who might otherwise struggle to get proper care. This is especially important for marginalized communities, including those with limited access to insurance, transportation, or resources.
In particular, SeaMar strives to provide services that make healthcare more accessible to immigrant and low-income communities in Washington State. As an organization, SeaMar has over 90 locations, ranging from medical clinics to behavioral health services, substance use disorder treatment, dental care, and more. By meeting people where they are—whether that’s through a mobile clinic at a rugby match or in a traditional healthcare setting—SeaMar is reducing the barriers that keep individuals from getting the care they need.
You can learn more about SeaMar’s commitment to equitable healthcare and their wide range of services on their website at SeaMar’s Mission.
Creating a Safer, More Supportive Rugby Environment
At SRC, we know how important it is to foster a supportive and safe environment for all players. That’s why working with SeaMar feels like such a natural fit for our club. Both organizations share a commitment to creating spaces where people can feel cared for, safe, and supported.
Kevin Flynn, SRC’s president, shared his excitement about this collaboration:
“This collaboration with SeaMar is a huge step forward for rugby in the Pacific Northwest. It helps us overcome the challenges of providing consistent sideline care at youth and adult matches. SeaMar’s mission aligns with our rugby values—creating a safe, trusting environment for all. We’re proud to have them on board and look forward to seeing their mobile clinic at matches in the future.”
This collaboration also comes at a time when health and safety in sports are being more closely examined than ever before. While SRC has always been committed to having trained medical staff available at our matches, the SeaMar mobile clinic ensures that we are better equipped to handle a wider range of medical needs. From minor injuries to more serious concerns, this added layer of healthcare is designed to give players, coaches, and fans peace of mind, knowing that support is readily available at all times.
What Does This Mean for Rugby Players?
For the rugby community, this represents a huge leap forward in terms of player safety and healthcare access. Players will now have access to:
- On-site medical professionals during matches and events
- First-aid and emergency care right at the sideline
- Health screenings for players before and during the season
- Educational resources on healthcare, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and more
- A safe, welcoming space where players can ask questions and seek medical advice when needed
SeaMar’s team is also committed to educating the rugby community on their mission to bring high-quality care to those who need it most, especially focusing on underserved populations. This is more than just sideline care—it’s about building long-lasting relationships within the community and ensuring that no player is left without access to vital healthcare.
Looking Ahead
We are incredibly excited for what this collaboration will mean for our rugby community. With SeaMar on board, we can rest assured knowing that our players have access to top-notch medical care and support when they need it the most. Whether you’re a player, coach, or fan, the presence of SeaMar’s mobile clinic will make our matches even safer and more inclusive for everyone.
We encourage all members of the rugby community to take advantage of the services SeaMar offers and to get involved in spreading the word about their mission. As we continue to grow and work toward improving player safety, it’s opportunities like this that will truly help us move forward.
Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to check out the SeaMar mobile clinic at our upcoming matches. We can’t wait to see you there!
